Parent Spotlight: Tsehay Gebere

Tsehay’s family has been a part of Reality Changers for 7 years. Tsehay is pictured right in the above photo.

Tsehay lives by the mantra “God is good all the time, and all the time, God is good!” With this steadfast faith, Tsehay has walked with her son to his college graduation from San Diego State University in 2020, and now has a daughter on the same journey. Today Tsehay shares with us how Reality Changers is part of her and her children’s support system.

Why is it important for your student to be a part of Reality Changers?

I am beyond thankful that my student is apart of Reality Changers because Reality Changers has continuously supported her this year within school and outside school as well. By providing tutors, she has been able to understand and truly appreciate the things she learns in class. Not only that, but she has been exposed to different college(s) by the college forums that Reality Changers provides, and has also learned different methods for paying for college. Reality Changers is preparing all students in the program for college in academics and in their lives.

How has Reality Changers been a support system for you and your student?

Reality Changers was a big support system for my son in high school. He graduated from SDSU in 2020, and the support this program has provided- academically and physically – cannot be overstated. Reality Changers has also served as a support system for my daughter and I through providing tutoring. Distance learning this year has come with its difficulties, and the fact that she is able to attend tutoring on a weekly basis has helped her understand the concepts in difficult classes like AP Biology.

Tell us about a time that was especially meaningful or a memorable moment for you as an Reality Changers parent.

One of the most memorable moments for me as an Reality Changers parent was attending Reality Changers’ Scholar’s Celebration ceremony at Sea World for the graduating class of 2016, and seeing both my sons graduate from high school.

What do you wish other people knew about Reality Changers?

This program provides such an encouraging community for students with the purpose of preparing these students for success and allowing them to know they will indeed attend college. It has redirected countless students from futures and paths they perceived as their reality. The essence of Reality Changers is already embedded within its name.

At Reality Changers we know that it is only with the support of a community that students succeed. Thank you to Tsehay for her continued support of her students, and for sharing her story with us today.
