A letter from our Board of Directors
Dear Reality Changers Community,
It is with great enthusiasm about the future that we share an important leadership update about Reality Changers.
After nearly seven years of dedicated service, Tamara Y. Craver will be stepping down as President and Chief Executive Officer of Reality Changers. Under her leadership, the organization received a $2 million grant, launched Reality Changers-student exclusive scholarships totaling more than $110,000 annually, and earned numerous community awards. Just as importantly, Tamara worked tirelessly behind the scenes to wrap our students and families in the support they needed, from housing and mental health services to legal resources, food assistance, and more.
Tamara is an essential part of Reality Changers’ 25-year legacy, and the Board of Directors is deeply grateful for the remarkable foundation she built; we wish her every success in her next chapter.
We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Gloria Corral as Reality Changers’ Interim Chief Executive Officer.
Gloria brings over 25 years of transformative leadership in educational equity and social justice to this role, and her story is deeply rooted in the very communities Reality Changers serves. Born in Tijuana and raised in San Ysidro, Gloria’s binational upbringing fuels a lifelong, personal commitment to expanding opportunities for families.
Most recently, Gloria served as President and CEO of the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE), where she led a remarkable organizational transformation, doubling the team, tripling the budget, and nearly quadrupling the number of schools and families served, ultimately reaching over 18,000 families annually across California and partnering with districts in 13 states. Her career spans the full educational continuum, from early learning through higher education, with experience at the U.S. Department of Education and in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. She has also served as Assistant Executive Director at First 5 San Diego, leading early childhood quality initiatives for children ages 0–5 and their families.
We are excited about Gloria’s leadership to further Reality Changers’ mission through this transition with vision, collaboration, and deep commitment to the care of our students and partners. Please join us in welcoming her.
Thank you to our students, alumni, families, volunteers, donors, and staff for your unwavering partnership in this work. Reality Changers is stronger because of this community, and that will not change.
A search for a permanent President and CEO will begin in the coming months, and we look forward to sharing updates.
Sincerely,
The Board of Directors
