College Ambassador

THE ROLE

As the Alumni Network College Ambassador, you will be a peer mentor to Reality Changers program graduates at your college campus. You will focus on the incoming first-year students to ensure they become fully acquainted with the campus and successfully transition to college. In addition to acting as a college guide, you will need to search for available opportunities driven by student needs in your local area (i.e., jobs, internships, scholarships, volunteer opportunities) and share them with your group. You will periodically check in with first-year Reality Changers students and stay up-to-date with their overall well-being, academic status, and goals.

Lastly, you are responsible for facilitating monthly events, including but not limited to welcome events, workshops, study groups, and socials. To be able to provide tailored guidance and suggestions, you will need to familiarize yourself with all first-year students and understand their needs and college/career goals. You do not necessarily have to provide the resources yourself, but be able to point them in the right direction. The Alumni Network Team will hold ongoing training to support the growth of your skillset to support our students’ success best.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate monthly 1:1 check-ins with students, assessing their academic, financial,personal goals, and providing adequate resources.
  • Meet program deliverables, preparing to transition students for higher education completion.
  • Host monthly events led by student voices, including but not limited to welcome events, workshops, study groups, and socials.
  • Attend mandatory bi-weekly Fridays at 12 pm team meetings and check-ins with the Alumni Network Manager
  • Submit meeting notes and program participation forms per student.
  • Announce opportunities on social media platforms (i.e., Instagram/Facebook/LinkedIn) and email.
  • Assist Alumni Network staff with any announcements or recruitment of program graduates for events.
  • Foster relationships with campus partners

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be enrolled full-time at either CSUSM, SDSU, or UCSD
  • Good Academic Standing.
  • Submission of unofficial transcript.
  • Strong knowledge of the available resources and opportunities at your college campus.
  • 3-5 hours a week of commitment.
  • Commit to a one-year term as a College Ambassador. Opportunity to serve as a mentor in a voluntary role for a second year.
  • Must attend mandatory training on Monday, Aug 5th (In-person) and Tuesday, Aug 6th (Online)

STIPEND

This position will be compensated with a competitive stipend.

  • SDSU up to $3,000 for the academic year
  • UCSD up to $3,000 for the academic year
  • San Marcos up to $1,500- $2,000 for the academic year

Stipend amount is determined by the student caseload of each College Ambassador. (For example SDSU College Ambassador supports up to 30 SDSU first years and San Marcos College Ambassador supports up to 15 first year students)
