Yvette Conde

We are excited to launch the second year of our College Ambassador Program at three local universities: CSU San Marcos, UC San Diego, and San Diego State. The College Ambassador Program is designed to empower upper class students to take on leadership roles as mentors and help provide incoming first-year students a successful transition to college.

Our College Ambassadors are trained in mentorship, practical leadership, and community building skills so that they are prepared to help first-generation students strengthen their self confidence, find their voice, and grow into pillars of support that future program graduates can aspire toward.

We are proud to introduce our CSUSM College Ambassador!

Tell us about yourself.
Hello! My name is Yvette Conde; I am a rising senior at CSUSM Majoring in Sociology. I was born and raised in San Diego, CA, but my family is from Puebla, Mexico. I graduated Torrey Pines High school and Reality Changers in 2017. When I arrived at CSUSM I was able to immerse myself into the campus community by looking for opportunities that promoted student well-being and academic advancement. In the summer of 2019, I was accepted into the McNair Scholars Program where I was introduced to research and graduate school. As a rising senior, I have my eyes set on attending graduate school upon completion of my undergraduate education. I’ve done research with professors at CSUSM and currently I’m doing research on educational inequality and opportunity with a professor at Stanford University. I hope to one day in the future, transform the educational landscape in order to promote equity and social justice within higher education. I know that we are all capable of great things and in our hands, we have the opportunity to bring about real change. I am grateful to have my family and community support me throughout my educational trajectory and I look forward to supporting you all in your first year of your new journey.

What are you most looking forward to as an ambassador?
A great part of my success can be attributed to my mentors who have constantly empowered me to explore my passions as a scholar. As an ambassador I look forwarded to mentoring and empowering the incoming students at CSUSM so that they too are able to explore and thrive in an academic environment.

Three Fun Facts?

  • I love soccer; my favorite soccer team is Chivas
  • Even though my family is from Mexico, the first time I traveled there was in my senior year of high school
  • I have one older sister and two younger sisters
