Thursday Night’s 300th Congress – May 30th, 2013
On Thursday, May 30th, Reality Changers celebrated it’s 300th Congress which means that we have been meeting for 300 Thursday nights since 2008! Thursday Night Site Director Cece Villegas gave her very last lesson to her students as she’ll be moving on to pursue her graduate education in the fall. We will definitely miss you Cece!
Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast – June 1, 2013
Reality Changers has at least 100 volunteers on a weekly basis who serve as mentors and tutors to our 7th-12th grade students. One June 1st, we hosted a breakfast that welcomed the tutors from all five Reality Changers chapters to converse and reminisce their favorite memories from the past school year.
Rock n Roll Marathon – June 2, 2013
2013 marks Reality Changers’ third year volunteering at Water Station 1 at the Rock n Roll Marathon. Our station serves both runners running the full (26.2 miles) as well as the half (13.1). We are proud to contribute to this event that raises thousands of dollars for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society! These students met at the RC Headquarters at 3:30am just so they could volunteer and distribute water the 20,000+ participants in this year’s Rock n Roll Half Marathon and Full Marathon.
Centerline BRT Press Conference – June 5, 2013
Reality Changers staff, alumni, and students are proud to be a part of the City Heights community and we are looking forward to the completion of the CenterLine BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) which will connect City Heights to Downtown San Diego and other key areas.
Scholarship Celebrations on the Rooftop – June 3-6, 2013
We held a scholarship celebration on the rooftop of our parking structure to recognize our Summer Camp and UCSD Academic Connections Scholarship recipients. Students shared their favorite memories from the program and showed their appreciation to their tutors and families. There were plenty of smiles to go around!
Facelift City Heights – June 8, 2013
On Saturday, June 8th, Reality Changers students collaborated with Community Housing Works to renovate a home in City Heights. Students worked together to paint and put in some new plants to liven up the home.
