A favorite service project among Reality Changers students is passing out water at the local races. Students love it so much that even waking up and meeting at our headquarters at 5:00am does not scare them away. This was the third year Reality Changers hosted our own water station at the La Jolla Half Marathon (Sunday, April 28th) and we were stationed at Seagrove Park in Del Mar – just past the third mile.
Setting up the tables, filling up thousands of water cups, mixing the electrolyte, passing out the water, and cleaning up all of the above takes a strong team of dedicated volunteers. Altogether, about 30 Reality Changers students and tutors cheered and served water & electrolytes to over 5,000 runners! We are already looking forward to next year’s race!
The Kiwanis Club of La Jolla raises over $100,000 a year through its annual La Jolla Half Marathon as well as other fundraisers. These funds are used specifically to address the needs of children in their wider community.
Thank you La Jolla Kiwanis Club for supporting Reality Changers and helping us build more first generation college students!
