Reality Changers’ impact can be measured by increases in college completion and transformed neighborhoods as well as decreases in teenage pregnancies and prison rates:

COLLEGE COMPLETION
While less than 3% of adult residents hold a college diploma if they live in the locality where Reality Changers is headquartered [1], the following percentages show the likelihood of Reality Changers students on track to graduate from four-year universities

  • 81% of Reality Changers students who attended UCSD’s Academic Connections for ONE summer
    have graduated or are on track to graduate from a four-university
  • 92% of Reality Changers students who attended UCSD’s Academic Connections for TWO summers
    have graduated or are on track to graduate from a four-university
  • 97% of Reality Changers students who attended UCSD’s Academic Connections THREE times
    have graduated or are on track to graduate from a four-university

TRANSFORMED NEIGHBORHOODS
While approximately 40% of Reality Changers students live within a single square block of where a homicide has occurred, 91% of such Reality Changers members have gone on to attend at least some college.

Furthermore, while the average income of students in Reality Changers’ last graduating class was less than $30,000…

Each graduate earned scholarship packages for college averaging $88,000 apiece.

TEENAGE PREGNANCY
While 1 in 2 Latinas get pregnant at least once before age 20 (and 69% of such mothers drop out of school) [2]

Approximately 1 out of 100 females in Reality Changers’ programs have become pregnant while still a teenager and all of them are still on track to graduate from college.

PRISON RATES
While some of the parents and older siblings of Reality Changers students have been sentenced to over 500 years in prison [3]

Reality Changers members themselves have spent less than 1 year in jail after joining the program.

WHAT’S THE BOTTOM LINE?
To achieve the results above, Reality Changers has helped students fulfill their abilities by awarding over $600,000 in scholarships during the past year and over $2,500,000 in scholarships since the program began in 2001.
Even better, Reality Changers students have earned over $15,000,000 in scholarships from all sources, thus providing a 5:1 return on investment.
